The elastane/spandex yarn producer Radici-Spandex Corp., Gastonia, NC, a U.S. subsidiary of RadiciGroup, Bergamo/Italy, is engaged in production and sale of RadElast spandex yarn. It is developing the world’first eco-friendly elastane yarn using a 100% renewably sourced material (biopolymer).
This innovative product line will be the world’s first spandex yarn consisting 80% biomaterial made from a 100 % renewable source (corn), as opposed to propylene. The biopolymer used in the new eco-friendly elastane yarn ensures:
- Greater processability compared to chemically produced base materials(PTMG).
- Enhanced finished product performance characteristics (higher productivity, better stretch reduced deterioration unders stress and decreased hysteresis effect).
- Improved cost and competitiveness in the long term versus elastane products based on traditional PTMEG.
The new fiber will be produced in the United States and meets CAFTA, NAFTA, and CBI standards.
In the USA the generic name for elastane yarns is spandex.
